Your first class

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in easily. Something fitted rather than baggy helps your instructor see your posture and footwork. Jeans and heavy layers tend to get in the way.

What shoes should I wear?

Shoes that let you turn easily, such as smooth leather or suede soles, or flats. Avoid sneakers and rubber soles, which grip the floor and can strain your knees. You don't need dance shoes to start, but they're worth getting once you're dancing regularly.

I've never danced before. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Beginner classes assume no experience at all, and most people are dancing a few basic patterns to music within their first lesson or two.

Do I need a partner?

No. Individuals, couples, and groups are all welcome.

Lessons

Do I have to perform or compete?

Never. Most of our students dance for fun, fitness, and the social side. Competing is entirely optional for those who want it.

Can you help with a wedding first dance?

Yes. Private lessons are a great way to prepare a first dance, and you're welcome to bring your song. Starting a couple of months before the big day gives you time to practise without rushing.

What ages do you teach?

All ages: adults, seniors, and children.
